When thinking of termite treatment options, many of us picture fumigation or “tenting.” But did you know that most Coachella Valley termite treatments are done on a smaller scale? Termite fumigation is used in homes and structures where a termite infestation is extreme and widespread. But most termite infestations don’t get that severe. The most common type of termite treatment is done on a small, localized area such as a single wooden board, or a group of them.
Localized spot treatment options for termites include electrocution, chemical foams, chemical liquids or dust, biological control, pressure-treated wood, resistant wood, barriers, and microwaves. There are chemical and non-chemical options for termite treatment.
There are a few localized treatments for termites available. Orange oil kills termites and termite eggs on contact, and will also kill termites that ingest recently-treated. Borates are slow-acting, so wood treated with it is consumed and transfered from termite to termite, spreading through the colony. Fipronil is another termite treatment option that’s slow-acting, and it works by disabling a termite’s central nervous system.
